Savings Books:
Savings books
are coupon books available for specific
cities, and sell for about $25-$35
per book. There are many “buy one,
get one free entree” coupons as well
as generous $10-$20 coupons for
many restaurants. There are also
many coupons for casual and fast
food restaurants. Books come out in
September and do not expire until 14
months later. Over the course of the
year, the price of the books goes
down. By June, the books can sell for
as little as $9.99 per book (with a full
five months left before they expire).
Print discounted gift certificates
for many restaurants at
www.restaurant.com.
You can purchase
$25 gift certificates for only $10
at a variety of restaurants. If you have
a coupon code, you will pay only $5
per $25 certificate.
Print free coupons for some
restaurants at valpak.com and hotcoupons.
com.
If you know what restaurant you
are going to that evening, just type it
in to your search engine with the
word “coupon.” I just typed in “Red
Lobster Coupon” and moments later
had a coupon for a free appetizer or
dessert. Do this for any and all of
your favorite restaurants, especially
the chains will have specials and
coupons on line.
Coupon codes for online
shopping: If you shop online on a
regular basis, become familiar with a
few coupon code sites to take advantage
of easy savings. Coupon codes
are simply codes that you enter in the
promotional code box on the checkout
page of your online retailer. You
will not find these codes on the retailer's
page. You can get them for your
retailers by signing up for their email
newsletters, or by checking a coupon
code site to find one. You can find
updated coupon codes on
www.couponcabin.com.

FREE GRANT MONEY To Pay Bills or Start
Your Own Business!!!
“Get $10k in 24 hours GUARANTEED!!!”
Free Grant Money?
I Don't Think So!
Multi-million-dollar advertising
for books now seen on TV and internet
advertising are peppered with
exaggerations and half-truths about
government grants, according to a
report released by the New York State
Consumer Protection Board ("CPB").
In its report, "Secrets Revealed!
How Misleading Advertising Is
Feeding a Nationwide Boom in
Government Grant Scams," CPB
says specific authors and others are
feeding a growing number of government-
grant scams now hurting consumers
across the country.
These books claim that the federal
government has more than
$350 billion in 'hidden money' that
ordinary people can use to pay their
credit-card bills and 'get out of debt.'
That claim is simply not true," said
CPB Chairman and Executive
Director Teresa A. Santiago.
Santiago said, "Privately, this
company admits there is no 'free
money to pay your bills' despite
advertising contrary information on
radio, late-night TV and Internet
advertising. This myth has helped to
create a growing industry of books,
tapes, web sites and, unfortunately,
many, many scam artists who say
they can help consumers find
'hidden money' from the government."
The CPB is now helping New
York consumers victimized in several
ongoing government-grant scams.
These include at least four telemarketing
networks that falsely "guarantee"
government grants to consumers
in exchange for an upfront fee of
roughly $250. Many of these scam
victims said they were aware of these
advertising claims.
The Federal Trade Commission
and other agencies recently reached
a half-million-dollar settlement with
a telemarketer accused of deceptive
practices in its telemarketing.
Santiago noted. "Many government-
grant offers are outright scams,
offering no benefit whatsoever to
consumers," she said.
These scams and other grant
offers have benefited -- in some
cases, directly -- from the sales of
these books, For example,
Information USA compiles and sells
direct-marketing lists with the
names, addresses and other information
of customers. These lists
have been used by other companies
to sell services such as debt repair,
and, in at least two cases, customer
lists were sold to outright scams
involving government-grant offers.
Two companies -- Grant PAC
and Grant Search Inc. -- were
charged with deceptive practices in
a $2.6 million complaint by the
Federal Trade Commission. The
firms both purchased customer
lists from these and other government-
grant publishers.
Another buyer of customer lists
is a Rochester , N.Y. company
called National Grants Conferences.
The seminars and high-priced products
sold by National Grants
Conferences has been the source of
numerous consumer complaints for
several years.
The report also cites a New
York City publisher, FPH
Communications, for misinformation in at least one of its grant
guides. Consumer who bought this
paperback guide are now being targeted
by grant-scheme telemarketers.
FPH says it sell its customer
lists to other direct marketers.
In releasing a report on the
activities of these and other government-
grant companies, Santiago
said the CPB hopes to dispel the
myths that the government is handing
out -- or "hiding" -- billions of
dollars that can be used to pay personal
expenses. The advertisers go
so far as to even claim that these
grants can help someone "stay out
of debt forever. www.csi.edu/

Is there really FREE
money to start your own
business?
Nearly every day a Small
Business Development Center
(SBDC) office or the Small Business
Administration (SBA) gets a call from
someone who has responded to an
ad that implies there is free money
available to start a business. It just
isn’t true. If it were, the people who
work in those offices would all have
one of those wonderful grants and be
starting their own businesses.
What really happens is that
those folks at SBDC’s all over the
country spend a lot of their time trying
to keep hopeful entrepreneurs
from getting ripped off by providing
real information about this sinister
scam.
Yes, there is grant money available
from private foundations and
government entities. No, it is not
available to individuals to start forprofit
businesses.
Often these “Free Money” ads
use the words “grants” and “loans”
together, as though they are the
same. They aren’t. Don’t fall into
that trap. Grants don’t have to be
paid back. If you want grant
money to start a business, you
don’t qualify.
Loans have to be paid back.
Any bank, SBDC or SBA office can
tell you about the various business
loan programs that are available.
Providing that information to you is
free of charge.
Why do these scams continue
to spread? It’s because there are
so many people who sincerely want
to start a business, yet don’t have
the money. These kinds of hopeful
entrepreneurs fall prey to ads that
promise a ‘free’ solution.
